Services at Riverbend Chiropractic and Wellness

At Riverbend Chiropractic and Wellness, we realize that the same treatment plan will not work for everyone.  All individuals are different and come in many ages, from providing care to infants, teens, and adults.  Dr. Berg will tailor your treatment with current chiropractic techniques and with the latest proven therapies.  When you become a patient of ours, we are not simply treating an ailment, we will work with you to achieve and maintain optimum health.

Chiropractic Care

The main focus of chiropractic care is diagnosing, treating, and preventing disorders of the spine and nervous system.  Dr. Berg also utilizes his training and expertise to extend patient care beyond the spine and address concerns within other areas of the body, including the upper and lower extremities.

We utilize a number of different chiropractic techniques at our clinic to individualize your care. These techniques include:

Activator Technique

This technique involves a spring loaded adjusting instrument that delivers a gentle, light force.    This technique can be utilized on any patient, and is mostly commonly used when treating our elderly, child and infant patients. This technique can be used to adjust the spine and smaller joints like the jaw and ankle.

Diversified Technique

Diversified technique is the most common of all techniques used by chiropractors today.  The chiropractor uses his hands to administer a high velocity, low amplitude thrust to correct spinal and joint misalignments with this technique.  A common result when using this technique is a "popping" sound which many associate with the care provided by chiropractors.

Thompson Technique

This technique uses a specialized chiropractic table to correct misalignments.  This chiropractic table has special segments which are elevated and will drop back down after a certain amount of pressure is placed upon them.  This technique allows the chiropractor to adjust the force needed to adjust, and usually will not produce noise with the adjustment.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is based on the theory that an energy force known as Chi, flows through our body along twelve special channels called meridians.  As long as the energy can flow freely; good health is maintained.   If the meridians are blocked; illness ensues.  Acupuncture uses fine, disposable and sterile needles, which are inserted at specific points to unblock the meridians and restore the flow of Chi.  At Riverbend Chiropractic and Wellness, we focus on musculoskeletal acupuncture treatments to compliment chiropractic care.

Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)

IMS is a treatment which uses acupuncture needles to treat tight and sensitive muscles caused by nerve irritation. IMS works by activating neural tissues within the the muscle tissue causing the muscle to release and ease discomfort.  This technique compliments chiropractic care by reducing muscular tension and allowing the alignment of the spine to be maintained.

Active Release Technique

Anyone from an athlete to an office worker can benefit from the Active Release Technique (ART).  ART is a non-invasive, soft-tissue treatment process that both locates and breaks down the scar tissue and adhesions which cause pain, stiffness, weakness, and physical dysfunctions.  These dysfunctions can be associated with repetitive strain injuries such as typing and sitting at a desk, working at a computer, running or golf; just to name a few.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a modern and highly effective treatment method which infuses high energy sound waves into the body.  These waves, which penetrate the body, create small bubbles that then burst within the affected areas.  This reaction  stimulates the cells that are responsible for healing bone and connective tissue.  Shockwave therapy is a non surgical method of treating a wide array of soft tissue conditions including bursitis, tendonitis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, and many others.

Custom Fit Orthotics

Orthotics are shoe inserts intended to correct abnormal or irregular walking patterns.  They perform functions that make standing, walking, and running more comfortable and efficient. Movement and function is improved by slightly altering the angles at which the foot strikes on a standing, walking or running surface.  Riverbend Chiropractic and Wellness staff will work with you to determine if orthotics are best for you, and what type will improve your movement.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy treatments have a therapeutic affect within patient care and improve health by acting directly on the muscular, nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic (immune) systems.  Massage therapy is also effective in the control of chronic or acute pain, in stress reduction, and in creating a sense of relaxation and well-being.  The massage therapists in the clinic are trained in several disciplines such as relaxation, deep tissue, and pregnancy massage, and all are Alberta registered therapists.
